Talk story about a party that the Bronx Zoo gave on July 14, at dusk, an hour after it had closed for the day. The festivities began at Wild Asia Plaza. Dr. William Conway, the general director of the Zoo, announced that the program included a trip through Wild Asia, a 40 acre outdoor exhibit that is viewed from a monorail high above the ground; a visit to the newly opened Children's Zoo; and a picnic dinner at the Wildfowl Terrace. He said many of the animals they would see in Wild Asia are extinct. Zoos are assuming increasing responsibility for the preservation of endangered species through conservation and selective-breeding programs. Tells about visits to the two areas and about chatting at dinner with herpetologist John Behler and field biologist Dr. George Schaller. The spoke about his work with pandas here and in China.
